9th ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF
Saturday, March 24, 6-10 p.m.
Planning for the 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off is under way, returning once more to the beautiful Upton Pyne Estate, Bernardsville. The Chili Cook-Off Committee is excited to bring you the social event of the year, complete with area chili chefs competing to take home the “Best Chili in the Somerset Hills” title, dancing to the rockin’ tunes of Katz ‘N Dawgz and more fun than you can ever have while raising money to support the students of the Somerset Hills School District.
BECOME A SPONSOR OR ADVERTISER
Many area businesses and community members support the Chili Cook-Off by becoming a sponsor or by advertising in our event program/recipe book. Sponsorships help underwrite our expenses, allowing SHEF to keep expenses to a minimum and maximizing the amount of contributions that can be made to support the school district and its students.

SUPPORT THE SILENT AUCTION
One of the many fun activities that are featured at the Chili Cook-Off is the Silent Auction. Those who bid on the variety of exciting offerings – from sports ticket and memorabilia to reserved seats at graduation and reserved parking – support the students of the Somerset Hills School District while engaging in a little friendly competition with their friends!

JOIN IN THE FUN!
The Chili Cook-Off Committee has always made this critical fundraising event look so easy and it is – except when there aren’t enough cowboys and cowgirls to herd the cows! So volunteer and help SHEF pull off the most successful Chili Cook-Off ever!
Chef Coordinator Recruiter – We have an experienced Chairperson who would like to train a new crew. Help recruit and get to know our Chili Cook-Off Chefs. A great volunteer opportunity for those who can make follow-up calls during business hours to help track down recipes and ads. A computer and internet access is needed. Contact Alice Rose at arose@shsd.org or 908-204-1930 ext. 1344.
Chef Supplies and Night-Of Coordinators – This is a great opportunity for you to attend the event and contribute all at the same time. The Chef Supplies and Night-Of Coordinators team of 2 or 3 volunteers create the supply list after inventorying what is in storage, work with the Chair to order new supplies, organize the supplies at each chef station during set-up, greet and assist the chefs at the event and check on them throughout the night. Perfect for those who would like to volunteer but want a job that can be done in a limited amount of time. Last year’s Chairs are ready and willing to take you through the process. Contact Alice Rose at arose@shsd.org or 908-204-1930 ext. 1344.
Clean-up –This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who doesn’t have a lot of time but can manage some upfront phone calls and email to arrange recycling bins and dumpsters and be on-hand the night of the event to supervise the SHSD custodians, hang around for a short time after the Cook-Off to make certain things are buttoned up and coordinate students and adults for clean up on Sunday, March 25 in the morning. The former chair has is retiring but he has it down to a science and has offered to bring a new crew up to speed! Contact Alice Rose at arose@shsd.org or 908-204-1930 ext. 1344.
Food Donations –We have a generous list of donors who provide appetizers and desserts for the Chili Cook-Off. We need a few people to contact past and new donors, arranging for pick-up or delivery of the food and set-up. Traditionally some of the desserts have been baked by students and we have a volunteer to coordinate that effort already! Contact Alice Rose at arose@shsd.org or 908-204-1930 ext. 1344.
Program and Printing –This volunteer position, which could easily be done by a team of 2 people, entails coordinating all of the content for the program, including follow up with Ad Sales, Sponsor and Chef Chairs to ensure that they follow up to secure all of the ads and recipes, editing the recipes for clarity, organizing all of the copy for the printer, setting up proofing parties with a small crew of eagle eyed editors and liaising with the printer throughout the process. This is a job for the detail oriented! The previous chair person is taking on other responsibilities but having developed a foolproof system, is ready and willing to train. Contact Alice Rose at arose@shsd.org or 908-204-1930 ext. 1344.
Decorations and Set-up – Join in the fun the week of the Chili Cook-Off as the Decorations committee works their magic at Upton Pyne. No experience necessary! Contact Committee Chair Carey Kane at ckane@hsk3.com.
All time and talents are welcome, so if you just aren’t sure but want to be involved please contact Alice Rose at arose@shsd.org or 908-204-1930 ext. 1344.
